Rick Baum is a member of the firm who has extensive litigation experience in such matters as insurance bad faith, business litigation, slander and invasion of privacy. He manages complex and extensive litigation requiring impeccable attention to detail.

Mr. Baum handles an extensive variety of business litigation disputes encompassing trademark infringement, contract actions, employment, and the commercial sale of goods. He counsels businesses in transactional matters including negotiating terms of contracts and advising of legal ramifications of business decisions. He also represents clients in cases involving allegations of wrongful conduct by corporate employees and agents/brokers, interference with contractual rights and advantages, discrimination, and invasion of privacy.

Mr. Baum has a thorough background in insurance bad faith and coverage disputes. He has handled disputes involving many types of insurance coverage, including environmental contamination, commercial disputes, property damage, and first party homeowners claims. Mr. Baum is involved in a variety of issues involving fraudulent insurance claims, including the investigation of them through Examinations Under Oath, defending insurers from bad faith claims arising from the handling of suspected fraudulent claims and training insurers’ claims personnel in handling suspected fraudulent claims in compliance with the California Department of Insurance regulations.

Mr. Baum’s experience extends to the handling of arbitrated matters as well. He has successfully defended hundreds of insured first party claims, such as uninsured motorists proceedings and medical payments claims, as well as contractually arbitrated business disputes. His experience includes serving as a judicial arbitrator for the San Mateo County Superior Court.

Mr. Baum received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania, with a major in Political Science and a minor in German. He also studied at the Ludwig Maximillians Universität in Munich, Germany and the Institute of International Law in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Baum received his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1995. In law school, he was the Recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Dispute Resolution and was a 1994-1995 Comments Editor of the Santa Clara Law Review.
