Randolph S. Hicks Member Randolph S. Hicks is a member of the firm and its President. He has specialized in insurance bad faith defense since joining the firm in 1978. He has tried to jury verdict numerous insurance bad faith/coverage cases and has handled many appeals arising out of insurance coverage and bad faith actions. Mr. Hicks regularly lectures to members of the bar and the insurance industry on the subject of insurance bad faith law in California. He has been a panelist on several occasions at the annual Northern California Association of Defense Counsel Bad Faith Seminar in Monterey. He also routinely presents seminars to insurance company employees on how claims personnel and in-house lawyers can avoid bad faith claims. In addition, Mr. Hicks has a substantial practice in the area of aviation litigation, representing airframe, engine and component manufacturers, air carriers, pilots, aircraft owners, and repair stations, in a variety of fixed and rotor wing cases. He has tried to verdict a number of aviation cases, including complex products liability actions against the manufacturers of helicopters and hot air balloons, and a federal, multi-district case arising from the hijacking of a 747 aircraft. He has also lectured throughout the United States on legal issues affecting the aviation industry. Mr. Hicks is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute (member, Insurance Law Committee, Bad Faith Subcommittee), the American Bar Association (formerly Vice Chair, TIPS Aviation and Space Law Committee and member of the Litigation Section - Aviation Committee), the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada (member, Insurance Law and Litigation Committee), and the Bar Association of San Francisco. Mr. Hicks received his A.B. degree in 1975 from the University of California at Berkeley. He received his Juris Doctor degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Santa Clara in 1978.
